Her Research

As a Student of Manual Osteopathy practicing within the Old Order Mennonite(OOM) community through the COVID-19(C-19), there was a need to quickly develop and adapt an efficient protocol for treating post-infectious C-19 patients. Robert Rousse!s Thoracic Cylinder Techniques proved to be rapid and effective in restoring vitality and motion where they had been diminished. By liberating the thoracic cylinders from the mediastinum, ventilation and vitality re-emerged in areas restricted by the body!s response to the virus. These Functional Emergency Techniques are versatile, efficient and effective. It is the author!s hope that they will be remembered and highlighted by the Osteopathic community for use in post COVID treatment.

This retrospective case report provides a glimpse into the effectiveness and clinical indications for using Rousse!s Thoracic Cylinder Techniques in the manual osteopathic treatment of post-C-19 patients. The initial treatments(post-infection) of three subjects complaining of lingering fatigue and musculoskeletal pain are presented.

There is precedent in our own history—the success of osteopathic care of patients with influenza during the pandemic of 1918. It is tragic that in Ontario Osteopathic Practitioners were deemed "not essential” and were prohibited from providing acute care to patients through the C-19 pandemic. The author has no doubt that had we been allowed to practice in this fashion that lives could have been spared. Despite this we must persevere and trudge forwards. It is the hopes of the author that the use of Rousse!s Thoracic Cylinders Technique in post C-19 treatment will provide ease and efficiency to those Osteopathic Practitioners who adopt its use.
